Second Riesling

The second bottle of Riesling I drank was from New Zealand. It was significantly different from the German Riesling I had with Easter Dinner.

I did not match this one with a food, but rather quaffed it while sitting out on the deck watching the local osprey fish the lake behind the house.

Plenty of fruit, apple-like, and very crisp, this one was bolder than the German. Smooth and consistant, it had a nice long finish.

The label says "tropical fruits", but I was getting a crisp, apple-like flavor on my palate. The alcohol content was greater than the German at 11.5%, but that was at a manageable level. The entire bottle went down nicely while allowing me to still get up from my chair on the deck and WALK back into the house rather than weave........ or worse.

The wine was a 1999 Grove Mill, Waihopai Valley Winery, Marlborough Riesling. A few more bottles of this shall also find their way to my wine rack. Just as soon as I get rid of that dog-gone Chardonnay!

All right, your two Reisling posts have stirred me to try a Riesling! I don't normally open a white wine unless the dinner calls for it, and I have never drunk a Riesling except for possibly at a tasting? I only have one bottle in the celler of it- it was a gift from a friend's visit to Lake Erie. I'll try to open it this week, I'm having surgery done on Monday, and it's going to screw up my wine drinking and taste-testings for a while. Oh what a joy!

I'd offer to help you get rid of that Chardonnay, but I tend to lean more toward Sauvignon Blanc!
