I've found a bottle of 1993 Penfolds 389 Cab/Shiriaz blend. Would appreciate any thoughts or TN's.

389 is pretty consistent. Always good and called "Baby Grange" because a good chunk of the Syrah comes from Kalimna vineyard which is a major part of Grange. 389 is not tied to any one vineyard though, so they can pick and choose depending upon vintage. Not as tannic as Bin 28, (which is Kalimna 100%) because of that deep soft Cab that shows up in wines like 407 and 707.
Good balance, used to be an insider's wine.

Jason, I see your new career affords you're taste for good wine.

Good thoughts on the 389 - could'nt pull more accurate info out of the southcorp spec sheets. Always shows real bright fruit with a nice balanced finish.

Bin 389 is a great wine. They usually start drinking really well at about 6 years of age so it should be great. I have not tried the 93 yet as I am still working on my 91's. The 96 is just released here and I am stocking up on it as it is a five star wine according to James Halliday, noted author and wine critic.
