My first Barbaresco. Showed up on the shelves and couldn't resist.

Color of a Central Coast Pinot Noir. Nose of crushed red berries and black tar over dirt. Bright acidity on the palate ... where'd the fruit go? Ah, it re-emerges, lip-smacking flavors unfold slowly, a baby Barolo for sure. Good structure, but needs time..... 'way too young. 13.5% alc/vol. With Freshetta frozen 5-cheese "brick oven" pizza smothered in fresh tomato and Manzanilla olives. The price? An absolutely criminal $7.65. Buy a train-car-load.

Drew, sorry I left off the source on that post. It was Costco. If you go, and if you have a choice of more than one Costco to visit, look for the wine in a store in an upscale area. It can really make a difference in the selections available. I've got one only four miles away, and usually visit that one; but that cheapo Barbaresco came from a Costco in a very upscale area about 15 miles away.

(Have been trying to post this all morning, but the site has had me blocked out.)

She picked up Italian take-out last night: grilled lemon pepper salmon with mixed veggies. Fresh out of decent PN so pulled one of these and .... perfecto! Earlier TN confirmed. Will do it again tonight with leftovers.

Had another tonight with her homemade cream of mushroom soup (must be every kind of mushroom imaginable in there!) Wonderful. Had a Bearboat PN with the soup last night, and I thought it went well, but this little Barbaresco was fan-tabulous. Second case is dwindling.

We have several Costco's (Price Club they're called here) nearby but none sell wine in Maryland. Sigh....
