Thanksgiving wines

My dad left me in charge of picking the wine for Thanksgiving dinner...one red, one white, I'm thinking. I'm pretty sure I'm going to go with a Beaujolais Nouveau for the red, but I'm not sure about the white. A Riesling, maybe? Any advice?

And what order should I serve them in? White, then red? Or does it matter?

For red, Zinfandel; for white Gewurztraminer or Riesling. White first.

Agree with Foodie, but only for tradition. We serve red and white zinfandel every year, because zin came to America untaged and was named in California, making it the closest thing we have to an American varietal. Therefore Mother and me drink red zin, and our kids will only drink white zin.

Having said all that, if you must drink a foreign wine on this All American holiday, the Nouveau goes a long ways to being the perfect pick when you look at all the arguments.

On top of all that the Nouveau this year is okay by me. Just drank two bottles tonight (with some help). The Georges D and another from Chateau De Chenas.

Both were very good for waht they are. Lots of fruit, raspberries and cherries and bananas on the nose and the palate with just a slight hint of bitter with the GD and a slightly tannic finish with the De Chenas.

Rooti-tuttie-fruity bubble gum with some hints of backbone on the finish. Both these wines will go perfectly with my homemade cranberry sauce!
