Now, I don't want to make some of you jealous, but...I have free, that's right free! tickets to the PNC Arts Center to hear Wynton Marsalis and the Lincoln Center Jazz Orchestra on June 30th. All I had to do was send in a coupon from the paper and ask for as many tickets as I wanted. I got eight tickets and I think it would be fun to have a pre-concer tailgate picnic. I've never done one of these and would welcome some menu ideas and wine suggestions. Remember KISS!

Whatever the food is, and should be summer-y, pair it with dry rose, nicely chilled, like the weather...

I would go easy on the food: get some dried sausages (salami), cheeses, olives, great breads, that sort of stuff. Why cook anything?

yum Foodie! An easy way to contain these antipasto ideas is to get a nice loaf of crusty bread slice in half lengthwise, add a simple balsamic vinaigrette, and your meats and chesses. Prepare it the day before, tightly wrap in plastic, and compress with a heavy weight. Then all you have to do is slice and enjoy! This idea has been used by Julia, Martha and others and really works out well. You don't have to lug lots of containers unless you want to. Have fun Georgie, I am jealous. Nothing better than to enjoy good food and wine and listen to some really good music.!

Sounds like a fun event Georgie! Go with Foodie's suggestions. If you want to add one prepared dish, consider a German-style potato salad made with vinegar rather than mayonnaise. You can add bits of ham or bacon and I think it's really delicious.

You are making my mouth water! That is a great idea. I've seen that sandwich done on Martha and Sarah and that would be PERFECT (as Martha would say!)Rose wine...hope I can find some Buehler's white zin. Been to quite a few stores around here with no luck. Thanks for the input, folks!

That's a nice white zin, but not quite what the doctor ordered. Look for a Cotes Du Provence Rose, or even your steller merchant should have a Tavel Rose.

Try some spanish rose, spicy and zesty and ultra refreshing. And, tell Wynton from me, "what your mama said!"....
