Never bought any pre-arrival before, but I'm hearing great things about the 2001's. Why buy pre-arrival? How do you know if something's going to match up to a prior vintage I might have liked before?

Hi Dave, and welcome to the Wine Board. With limited experience with Brunellos (the price gets higher and higher) the top producers are very reliable year in and year out. There are even secondary or lesser producers that I have (and can afford) faith in.

The reason to buy pre-arrival is to lock in the price and availability. I don't do it often but have sometimes on Bordeaux futures and Sauternes dessert wines. I too have heard good things about 2001 Brunellos. Several from Banfi got good reviews in "Wine Enthusiast." In fact the most recent issue reviewed a large number of 2003 Brunellos so you might want to try to get hold of that issue and read for descriptions if not ratings. (The descriptions may let you know if it is your type of wine or not).
