Baglio di Pianetto. Sicilia. Nero d'avola and merlot blend.
Stopped in a very good local Baltimore Italian deli a couple of days ago, Masteloni's in NE Baltimore City, and couldn't leave without a bottle of wine. They have a fine wine selection that entices a visit on occassion from Robert Parker, fwiw. This wine displays rich dark concentrated fruit, dark cherry, dried cherry and licorice flavors. Somewhat rustic and still plenty of tannins to allow many more years of aging. Well balanced and paired well with a homemade baked meat rigatoni with ricotta, mozzarella, parmesan and pecorino cheeses. 13.5%Alc/vol. $18

I've not had much luck with Sicilian wines. Glad to hear of this one so will look for it. Thanks.
