2000 Castelvero, Piemonte, Barbera ($7). Fantastic value. Medium dark purple color. An explosion of black fruit on the nose and tongue tip, stong hint of earth and smooth tannin across palate. Lovely finish. Teamed it with ribbed penne in tomato, basil, garlic sauce, Pecorino Romano, fresh sweet Italian sausages, and salad tonight. Picked all up from Micucci's Market in Portland on the way home this afternoon. Wonderful.

'02 tonight same price, same place. Just as nice if not better. Matched it with lamb shanks and penne and salad with Balsomic Vinegar and EVOO. What a way to spend a Wednesday night.
