A Cal-Ital, making this a hard one to find a category for. A blend of mostly Sangiovese and Cab, with some Merlot thrown in for good measure. Call it a "Super Tuscan" frin Sonoma.

The "burnt orange" soil described by the label is not reflected in the color of the wine, which bordered on purple, with reddish hues around the edges. Nose of black cherry, flavors match. Good acidity which matched up to pizza -- probably a versitle food wine with general red-sauce Italian fare. Wine, though, was a bit nondescript. Anne had no impression whatsoever. 13.8% alc. Paid $15 for it on sale at the local Whole Foods. Probably won't buy it again, but it wasn't bad for dinner on Friday night.

Hi Dan.Checked and find the Sienna I bought was the 99. Will try some. I liked the 97 very much. This is a wine that IMHO definately needs to grow some whiskers to show. WW

I find such "Italian" wines to be too much like wine produced in Ca. or Aussie. Not what I look for in wine--sameness.
