Met wondersofwine yesterday. Poor lady had tickest to Lion King--the musician's strike took care of that for her. Then, she tried to get to is-wine via the F train, as I suggested; train was not running for some reason.

Anyway, she made it to the shop. She dropped off the above wine for my opinion. Wondersofwine, that wine is so bad I suggest that if you have more bottles you send them to me immediately so that I can destroy them!!!

This is one helluva Pinot Noir--bramble-like, near-perfect structure, a finish that lingered through the night--fantastic.

Let me know, wonders, how you like the NY Riesling.

Glad you liked the Morey-St-Denis "Ruchots" Foodie. It is one of my favorites but I didn't know if it is made in a traditional way or more modern methods. I also like Arlaud's M-S-D "Millandes" and at a higher price level, the Clos St. Denis. Each has a different flavor, so I think they probably are expressive of the particular terroir.
I opened the Glenora Fingers Lake Dry Riesling last night and I like it. I don't have much experience with Alsacian and Austrian rieslings so will say it reminds me of a German Kabinett or more austere German riesling. The fruity element reminded me of pears, and there is a stony or mineral element as well. Balanced and food friendly.
11% alcohol by volumes. I had it with lightly breaded baked fish and a tossed salad. Could also see it with poultry dishes. I believe it was a 2001 but don't have any notes with me.
While in NYC I attended the off-Broadway musical revue "I Love You, You're Perfect, Now Change" (cute, but no "Lion King"), splurged on a fixed price dinner at Veritas (of the 60-page wine list--I had an old vines Volnay half-bottle and a very reasonably priced port) and attended a Tasters' Guild of New York burgundy tasting of Mommesin wines. Will report on the tasting under Pinot Noir thread later. If you dine at Veritas (for a very special occasion), I recommend the almond cake for dessert. It goes beautifully with port.

Also liked Cafe Madeleine on West 43rd between 9th and 10th Avenues. This was right
close to the Westside Theater where I saw the musical review. They have good food and a nice selection of wines by the glass including the Bearboat Pinot Noir (Russian River Valley) that I have had in a restaurant in Raleigh. (And good desserts such as pumpkin bread pudding, and a chocolate pot au creme (spelling?)
