First bottling from this killer new producer I've opened. Brilliant ruby. Lovely nose of cherry, strawberry, leather and barnyard. A really deep sense of the pinot grape in the nose. Solid entry. Weighty center and a 4+-lapper finish. This is their low-price entry and now I can't wait till I get to the Southing. A kick-patootie 1st offering. 91/95 22 on futures. 14.3% alc. WW

According to the buyer at my local haunt, Georgia distribution is "in the works and will happen soon." I'm very excited!

Another nice Pinot development in these parts is that Merry Edwards can be found on some select retail shelves now.

I'm just waiting for my new cellar to arrive this week . . . and to pay off the credit cards from that purchase and the recent offline wine purchases

WW - what do you mean by a "lapper finish" - I have seen you give numbers for this, but have no idea what this means.

Kind of like a C.B. DeMille movie? How many men have died?

BK (formerly known as robr - sort of a Prince thing), WW's lappers are what you do when you taste a wine. Hard to describe in words, but when you smack your lips after tasting a very nice wine - that's sort of it. Four lappers is close to four lip smacks, but in weenerspeak.

Actually what I do is take my tongue after tasting a wine and rub it aginst my front upper teeth. Kinda' like scraping paint off a piece of wood. I then rate the wine on how many laps it takes to completely remove the taste of the wine from my palate. The most I've experienced is the legendary 5-lapper. Alcohol doesn't count by itself. Must be the flavor of whatever grape is in the bottle. Hope this rambling prose sheds some light. WW

Just so we can all get a clear visual, do you stick your tongue out and scrape it as you draw it back in, or push it out and scrape it as it exits the oral cavity?

Either way, it sounds like an eccentric exhibition. But, hey, whatever works!

Had to revisit this after the Wedell yesterday to confirm my original thoughts on this terrific new producer. Stood the test of comparison.. 'Smatter of fact it confirmed it in spades. Tho the Sea Smoke is a lovely bottle it didn't have the impact, depth, nor diversity of the Wedell. Picking up my box tomorrow. WW
