Opened up rather funky, very musty and unbalanced. Clear purple garnet in color, this wine is denser than looks but not by much. Thought it was slightly corked. Nose of paint thinner, wet newspaper, musty, some red fruit….still wondering whether it is faulty bottle. Finishes very very hot,..very discombobulated....down the drain...$24.99 per bottle.

It probably did have TCA taint if you got musty and wet newspaper odors.

Too bad. Do you ever try to recoup your financial loss when this happens? I don't. I don't think it's worth the hassle, it happens so seldom to me.

Yeah, it no fun especially if it's a bottle you've been looking forward to.

I have a pretty good relationship with my wine pusher and their staff. I end up at KC's store and another one closer to work (Blachard's of Allston's) about a combined 15% of the time (I have yet to see KC though...one day my schedule will finally match....mostly my fault due to my work schedule). In all cases, they have told me to bring the bottle back if it ever is bad as they tell me they just give it back to the distributor. They do not lose out financially. However, I (touch wood), do not really get a lot so I almost don't really care too. I mean do I have to return it full so they can smell it or can I just drain it and let them know?

I usually do.
I work at a wine store, so I know how easy it is for us to get credit.

I'd estimate I return 1 in 20-30 bottles...
I had a long stretch where I didn't have any...
I turned to my girlfriend, happily walking out of the wine store with a cheapo but good vihno verde, and I said, darling, we haven't had a corked bottle in some time!
That night it took us to the fourth bottle to find a good one...

not a happy camper.
Vive le Screw-Cap!

Hey, Eng. Don't know if you're in town today, but if you're home come on over to the shop. I'll be there until 9 tonight (Wednesday).
