QPR Alert! in Burgund no less.... 2006 Domaine Digioiaa-Royer

The 2006 Domaine Digioia-Royer Bourgogne is a base level bottling from this domaine that has serious attitude. It is good as in a Michel Lafarge Bourgogne, and it is even cheaper at about $20.

I bought this a few years ago and forgot it in the back of the small wine frdge up in my room. I've never had his stuff before. On opening, I liked just a drop on the side of the glass. Looked promising, then took a sip to confirm. This thing had a density in flavours and structure that would beat the socks of more expensive village and 1er cru's.

Good density of flavours, still a bit tanninc and backwards, needs time still... for a bourgogne. Good purity of PN fruit, great structure. A bit high on the acidity but this is not a shy wine. Muscular but with finess. I'm gonna hafta try a few more of his other wines to see if this is true across the board. I've not heard of him before

I posted on a 2006 Digioia-Royer Chambolle-Musigny in July and you replied to my posting. And I've posted on this producer at least twice before. On the WLDG forum when I first discovered Digioia-Royer wines, I heard from Alan Uchrinsko and Claude Kolm, both in the business and both singing the praises of the firm. Alan said that he thought the producer performed particularly well at the low end, with the Bourgogne and village wines. I have two more bottles of the Chambolle-Musigny but will wait at least two years before opening another one as I think it needs more time. My opinion of the 2002 Digioia-Royer Chambolle Musigny was that it was a village wine that drank like a 1er cru so I'm not surprised that the basic Bourgogne drinks like a higher appellation.
