Dark red verging on purple. Not much of a nose at all. Initially this wine was not all that pleasant, showing bitter cherry flavors and plenty of tannin.

After about 45 minutes it opened up a bit. The nose started showing a little cherry and cinnamon. Flavors of meat, mint, and some cherry began to develop, but the overall effect was still tight and tannic. This is certainly a rather backward wine requiring some aging. It is not nearly as appealing now as the Burguet, but the acids and tannins seem to be in good balance. I am inclined to think the fruit and other flavors will open up further and end up being more complex and interesting than the Burguet.

While at $30 a bottle I wouldn't call it a bargain, for those of us hooked on Burgundy, this is decent value.
