Santa Barbara.

Rose-colored in the glass, with good cherry nose and like flavors, with the bacon fat flavor that I find in Gehrs Pinots coming in late. A bit of pine and some easy tannins on the finish. A very nice bottle, made especially good considering the $13.99 price tag. A damn sight better than the $30 I've spent normally here in Atlanta. Anne picked up several bottles at Vintage Wines in SD, since we can't find Gehrs locally anymore.

13.5% alc. A winner if you can find some. Gehrs makes some of our favorite Pinots year in and year out. Haven't been disappointed any year since '98, which still may be Anne's sentimental favorite wine of all.

Agree in spades on this fine producer. Thot I'd posted on this but think it was maybe on last years model. Senior moments happen!! WW

That's an extreme variation in price from $13 to $30! Are other California wines similarly overpriced in Atlanta area? For example, do you know what the price is on Byron Pinot Noir?

Also, did Anne have the chance to do a tasting at Vintage Wines? If so, any report on the wines she tasted?

That pricing is nonsense, and it is likely due more to availability than anything else. Other stuff is not so similarly overpriced. I've bought Byron for about $17, Cambria for $19 or so, Savannah-Chanelle for $17, Hartford for $25, etc.

Anne did not do a tasting at Vintage. She went in "on a mission." She was in and out in 20 minutes. Good, helpful folks, though. No mixed case discount, however. I'll post on some of the neat stuff she picked up (all pinots) when we start crackin' 'em.

The reason John doesn't give case discounts is his pricing is 10-15% lower than regular wine shops. WW

Sad to report, but this one is on the way out. Disjointed parts with nothing but tartness holding it together. Really beautiful not too long ago. Same thing seemed to happen with past Gehrs wines that rapidly declined after 5 years. Still, they sure are fantastic from about 3-5.

The only pinots I've found that really age well are the Dehlingers, Scherrers, and santa Cruz Mtn. Vineyards. Am sure there mite be others but these are the ones I've stuck with. WW
