Had the Echelon Pinnicles the other night which was tasty for $13. Nice fruit with a slight earthy edge.

Have to go along with Barnsey. Have not found an American that can compare pricewise with the Laforet. Think the DeLoach costs more than $15. If you want to go the under $20 route, I'll recommend it and the Logan, Sleepy Hallow Vineyard. A lower price one that I haven't tried that gets rave reviews is Villa Mt. Eden, California.

There are a number of possibilities in Oregon. Benton Lane in particular comes to mind. It should be under $15 and has shown to be of reliable quality in poor vintages ('97) as well as good ones ('98). I seem to see it in lots of places, so they must make a bunch. And the next two vintages coming out ('99 and '00) are both good ones for Oregon. Elk Cove is also a good producer and they have ditched their Estate wine in favor of a Willamette Valley selection that retails for less than $15. The Wilamette Valley selections from Willakenzie, Rex Hill, and Torii Mor are also very good, but they'll go for a hair under $20. All prices retail. Good luck.

Have to agree with the latest Oregon Pinot comments from ddf68--all good choices. Here are some others from OR based on a blind tasting of over 100 Oregon pinots from 1998 for my magazine (including such rarified stuff as Archery Summit Estate at $100). Elk Cove's 1998 Willamette Valley at $17 was a real big winner and for me, far and away the best price/quality wine of the vintage! Others I highly recommend include Broadley Vineyards Willamette Valley at $15, Amity Vineyards Dauenhower Vineyard at $15, Starr Willamette Valley at $15, Bridgeview Vineyards Blue Moon at $16, The Academy Oreogn at $19, and High Pass Willamette valley at $17. There are others at the $12-18 price point not mentioned by me or ddf68, but I wouldn't recommend them! Also, keep a look out for the Wilamette Valley and Oregon blends in the 1999 vintage: more quality than '98, and overall better balanced and more aromatic than the odd '98 vintage.

I was also interested in ideas on Pinot Noir having never tasted it before. Between the recommendations on the 2 threads listed I should have a good time sampling.
