Is Reisling a dessert wine?

Would you pair reisling with a dessert? Or does it depend on which pressing? We have a Spatlese (the name escapes me, it's a dark blue bottle)I'd like to pair with something. We usually quaff (am I using this term correctly? yikes!) it so I'm not sure what to have with it. What about the other pressings, would you pair different foods with them as opposed to the Spatlese?

You could but usually Auslese or a higher harvest category would be better as a dessert wine. Your bottle might show better as an accompaniment to a salad with citrus or acid based dressing or appetizers of cheese, smoked fish, raw or cooked seafood etc. I've included a link to help explain the German harvest ratings.

You could use the Spatlese with something spicy like the spicy halibut another poster recently asked about. You could also drink it with spicy oriental food. And there's nothing wrong with occassional quaffing.
