2000 Ch Lagrange

Thor I'd posted on this but couldn't find it ennywheres. This lovely 3rd growth is starting to flesh out. Deep ruby with no bricking. Nose has loads of spicy, meaty, notes with some currants, cassis, and some cherry undertones. All hit the palate along with some vanilla. Strong entry weighty center and a solid 4+ lapper finish. Needs another 5-8 to resolve the silky tannins. After 4 hours in the glass they receded and left loads of sweet fruit. 91/94. 24 by the box on futures. 13% alc. WW

By the time I got smart enough to look for the 00 or 03, they were already asking double the retail price for admission. Swung and missed.

Nose was really shy. Time will cure the few drawbnacks this lil' hummer has. Am going into the 2nd thru 5 growths in the next few. WW

This fell from the bin yelling "Try Me-Try Me" so being the good guy I be, natchurally the cork was slung open. Nose seems to be getting some muscle and integration. Still loads of tannins but seem to be more civilized. Still needs at least 3-6 to reach the lofty thingie it is destined for. Will keep checking this bugger as it is a delight ebber time. Kick it up a notch to 92. WW

You often post two different ratings on your wines (91/94)? What's that about? My guess is where the wine is now, and what you expect it to reach. Am I right?

So what would it mean for a wine to have a value of 94, for example?

An illustration. If a wine sells for 15 and my scoring is 87/92 IMHO this shows the wine is above average in quality and is an outstanding value. If on the other hand I score 92/85 for a wine that sells for 100 dollars I'm saying the wine is outstanding but for the price it isn't a good buy. It's very possible a wine can be good or very good in quality and still be an outstanding value. Coversely many of todays higher priced bottles that have outstanding juice are over-priced for thier quality as a 100 buck bottle should darn sure be outstanding. Hope this cures this up. This system was used and concocted by the late founder of this board,Jerry Mead who IMHO had one of the best palates I've ever encountered. WW

Brilliant system, WW. I think I have just adopted it. I always factored price but never liked not having a score completely uninfluenced by price (and QPR of course).

Had this lovely hummer whilst watching the French Openess yesterday. This sweetheart is blossiming like the roses in me back-yard. Loads of red cherries, plums and even a hint of raspberries. The spices and meats are balanced by a note of vanilla. The mouthfeel is becoming intense and looks like the considerable soft tannins need at least another 2-5 to fully integrate. Beautiful bottle that reinforces the greatness IMHO of this killer vintage. Move to a 92. WW

Couldn't think of anything that mite be interesting to drink while watching me beloved Cards dismantle St. Looie so picked another of these. Nothing new since June except the nose seems to be blossoming. No change in scoring. WW

Had another for lunch today. Coming along bootifully. Nose seems to be expanding as it should. Still at least 2-4 from peak but still a kick-patootie bottle of juice. No change in scoring. WW

Met one of my grandsons for lunch and decided to take this lil' lovely. Still in development mode but shows lots of class. Hard keeping me hot lil' mits off this sucker as it do be drinking swimmingly. WW
