2000 La Rose Saint-Genes du Chateau Listran

Opened as a sipper with Reggiano and water crackers on a rainy afternoon. Decanted for an hour and found cedar bark and pencil shavings on the nose, followed by lead pencil and mushrooms with an overlay of bright fruit on the palate, fading to a moderate finish; at 12%, the alcohol content is what I call perfect. This Medoc is a bottom-feeders delight at $6.99, Costco price. A case buy. Or maybe two.

With leftover NY strip, scalloped spuds, ranch-style beans. Hadn't tried this in a year and the tired vittles called for a simple red. This little cheapo is hanging in there though, with pencil shavings and cedar still present but the 'shrooms are now gone. Still enough fruit to be pleasant but drink up, it won't last much longer.

This little dude ain't croaked yet! Last night with leftover sirloin, grilled veggies ('shrooms, yellow squash, red peppers). Fruit is still there but a bit thinner. Need to be giving this stuff away.

It's still hangin' in there. With spuds, sauteed spinach and leftover filets, this lil babe still has nice fruit, soft nose and Medoc character on the palate. Keep forgetting to offer as gifts.

It's amazing how well the baby Bordeauxs show in the great vintages. WW
