1986 Cos d'Estournel

Anyone had this? If so, any ideas on how it might be drinking? Anne won it in a charity auction last night (along with some other fun stuff).

I've not had the '86 but most comments in CellarTracker are very favorable, with a drinking window of 2002-2013. Seems to need a couple of hours in the decanter; scores in the mid-90's, price tag in the neighborhood of $135. Here's hoping yours has had good storage.

Thanks for the info. Anne, who is still in Atlanta, reports that the cork looks OK, but not great, though the fill level is fine. So, fingers crossed. I think she'll probably bring it up to the farm when she comes up for T-giving, though we'll probably let it sit a few weeks before thinking about popping it. Judging from those drinking window reports, there doesn't seem to be any real reason to continue sitting on it. Will let you know how it turns out [img]http://www.wines.com/ubb/smile.gif[/img]

Had this a week ago and it was good, but not my style of Bordeaux. Rich, concentrated still in its youth. Unfiltered and lots of sediment. Its a good wine, no doubt but not classic old-world style Bordeaux.

Perhaps my bottle was not up to par. Its hard to drink old Bordeaux not knowing how it was stored...

I'm thinking then that the 2009's based on the notes will be even less to your liking.....

TE, 2009 Cos d'Estournel based on Janis Robinson and Parker and like day and night. Cos d'Estournel is not filtered so its tannic levels are thick as mud.

Interesting, but again not to my liking and thus my decision to stay away from 09 (not to mention the price)...
