Steve W became a Grandfater yesterday(1st) so we called an immediate celebratory panel at the club. Beside we 2, Mike C and Gene(who's building Steves' new house, arrived for the prayer meeting. First was the Lagrange. Sparkling brite ruby. Shy nose Massive amount of everything, fruits, spice, and enough tannins to let this hummer develop for another 10-15. The Craig was just the opposite. Deep ruby, almost purple, the nose was killer. Red and black fruits, cinnamon-clove-allspice, and the neatest waft of mtn currants. All hit the palate and almost overcome the taste buds. A sigularly top-drawer Mtn cabernet. Lastly the Petrus was amazing. From this really mediocre vintage this showed why this hummer gets the big-bucks. Deep ruby. Nose a mixture of roses, ginger, bakers cocoa, and extract of vanilla. All hit the palate running and the finish was the legendary 5-lapper. All of these wines were outstanding and for 25 en premier the Lagrange has to be the best of all best buys. None was willing to stop here so we bought a copuple more bottles to wrap up the afternoon. Steves' girl-friend was kind enough to give all 4 of us a lift home so noone was endangered. WW
