Thanks to all for your help.

One question sparks up though from kewhippet's response -
should I look into serving both a Pinot Gris and a Pinot Noir? 5 bottles of each perhaps? Or should I stick with 10 bottles of just the Pinot Gris?

Oh, what evil webs we spin for ourselves. Damned if we do, and damned if we don't. These and other trite expressions not withstanding, it is an interesting question. The idea of presenting 22 men with nothing but white wine does rub me the wrong way. Then, again, if you go 50/50 you face the possibility of all of one or the other being drunk up first, with demands for more.

Another question is what are these guys going to drinking before they sit down for dinner? It is difficult to go from Scotch & water, beer, or other heavy aperitif to white wine. The pinot noir really wouldn't go too well with the chicken.

Go 50-50.

Thanks for your reply, Innkeeper.

The 22 men will be at a cocktail hour having a couple of drinks of whatever they choose before the dinner. Could be whiskey, wine, beer - really whatever they want.
