ANOTHER Christmas gift. 1997 Ferrari-Carano Alexander Valley, Chardonnay.

Back label talks about full-body and French Oak. Kinda makes me think this is just another Cali Oak Bomb.

Can anyone confirm or deny? Thanks!!

Here's what WS says:
Here's a bottle of California's favorite white in a ripe and rich style. It's complex and concentrated, with lovely pear, apricot, tangerine and melon flavors that gain in opulence and pick up a pleasingly spicy note.Drink now through 2002. (45000 cases produced)92 points - Spectator Selection

I had one of their Fume Blancs some time ago and I seem to remember not liking it because of prominent oak flavors, so I imagine you can expect plenty of wood in their chardonnay.

Steve Tanzer had this to say: "Aromas of honey, fruit salad and spicy oak. Thick and ripe in the mouth; on the sweet side but boasts plenty of palate presence. Fruit notes of pineapple, lemon and guava jelly. Holds its shape nicely on the lingering aftertaste. This will never be mistaken for Burgundy, but it very satisfying chardonnay. 88 points."

The wineaccess website also had a review from the Beverage Tasting Institute, whatever that is, which mentioned oak twice in a three or four line review.

Well, I guess I can give it to some un-suspecting poor soul............

But then, again, I just might take a sip and find out for myself.........

Fickle? Well it was a gift.

As you know, I am not a big oak fan, however I often find F-C Chards to be pleasurable, even if they push my oak limits. Try it with a nice cream based seafood dish and I think that you will be pleased.

Serve it before the Forest Glen; preferably to someone who walks around with a toothpic in their mouth.

I know just the person......... GRIN

Bucko: Hmmmmm cream based seafood. Well a close second to that is my crab stuff.

Have some still in the freezer. I guess a thaw and a bake and a sip of this oak bomb and we'll find out...........

I mean, come-on, sour cream, cream cheese and mayo is a pretty close second to a "nice cream sauce".......

Think it might work?
