I had a 1999 vintage of this wine tonight with fettucine alfredo and grilled chicken breast strips. Because of it being a 99, I was concerned that it may be over the hill, but it was great! A pretty straw color and very fruity with aromas of pears, honey and melon. It doesn't specify on the label whether or not this is unoaked...maybe one of you experts here can shed some light. All I know, is that I'm not a big fan of the traditional oaky California style Chardonnay and I loved this. There were no vanilla or toasty tastes or aromas...just an easy drinking, fruity wine. I can't remember what I paid for it...but with my limited budget, it was definitely under $15...and more than likely under or around $10. Any ideas on whether or not this was unoaked? I'm usually a much bigger red wine fan, but this was a great match with my dinner tonight, so I just had to sing it's praises.

It was probably given a little age in old oak. This is about the most any Maconnais will get. The idea is to keep the oak in background, which apparently they accomplished. Glad you like your chardonnay this way. Many of us do likewise.
