went to a mini-wine tasting this weekend that included white burgundys and red bordeaux.

the four white burgundys (in descending order of preference):

2001 Pouilly Fuisse Drouhin ($13.95) - big nose, big flavors, dominated by minerals. very tasty stuff and a bargain.

1998 Macon Villages Clos du Four ($7.95) - 100 percent chardonnay, barrel fermented and aged. clean, crisp with good acidity. a very good food wine, and a great value if you like fruit in your chardonnay, instead of oak, butter and smoke.

NV J Moreau Blanc ($5.95) - a blend of predominantly chardonnay and sauvignon blanc. minerals, earth and white fruits. pretty good.

2001 Chablis Maligny ($12.95) - nice nose of citrus fruit, but very hollow on the palate, with a slighty barnyard aftertaste. smells good, tastes bad.

Had not heard of a barrel fermented and aged Macon-Villages before.

Newsguy posted while I was in Florida and I just saw it today. I really like some Pouilly-Fuisse wines and will be on the lookout for the one recommended here. The Macon wines can be nice also but usually lack the extra pizzazz of a good Pouilly-Fuisse. When the Macon wines have that tart apple characteristic, they match really well with an apple salad.
