I am seeing this deeply discounted in several shops. Is it worth stocking up at $12-14 a bottle?

Sorry woodsy I haven't had this particular bottle. My suggestion is buy a bottle, open that hummer, and decide whether the discount warrants further outlay. WW

Woodman,

Where are you finding this bottle for $12-$14/bottle? I did notice that wine.com is advertising a special at $19.99/bottle with $44.99/bottle listed as the regular price.

Wine Exchange has it at 11.99, and the gourmet market down the street from me (Sacramento) has it at 14.99. With the shipping from Winex it's a wash.

My understanding is that KJ is taking this out of their lineup and want to unload the 97s.

Woodsy ole snort. Want to thank you for finiding this gem. My local pusher got the wholesaler for KJ to commit to 200 cases. I was forced to cut my stash from 10 to 3 after looking at available space. Sorry I gave Drew the credit for finding this jewel sometime back. Ole' " Baltimore Schnozz " normally sniffs out this type of bargain. I'll post on this whenced I return from Las Vegas week-after-next. I always go on a sabbarical before tackling the Big Neon. WW

The Buckeye Vineyard is actually parcel on the old Gauer Ranch in the Alexander Valley, the grape source for wines from Marcassin (Helen Turley's winery) and Peter Michael. The owner of KJ bought the vineyard several years ago and has replanted parts and cleaned up other parts. This wine is superb! Buy as much as you can!

Picked up my order yesserday and opened a bottle for lunch today. Deep ruby with a peek-a-boo nose at first. Good entry with a strong center. Loads of red fruits, cassis, and some pencil-shavings. After 1 hour the nose came on with floral notes, sweet spice, and some heavy plum. The finish isn't classic but falls in the 3 lapper area. For the 17 per clatter, wish Ida' had enough space to take my 10 case order. Heck-ofa bottle that will definately improve over the next 4-5 years. WW

Glad you liked the tip w-o-w. This is a good value, but I can also see why they couldn't sell it at the original $45 list. Same KJ bottle with that horrible flange and red wax, unremarkable label, etc. It looks like a $45 bottle of KJ grocery store wine. I know Jess Jackson knows a little about marketing wine, but this one mystifies me...

Woodsy even the best get sloppy every-now....He's also smart enough to know the wine wouldn't bear up to comparisons with the 40-45 juice on the market. Even at 120-130 per case wholesale he didn't lose his panties. Still makes a great under 20 bottle. WW
