1997 Chateau Potelle Mt. Veeder

Didn't take a degree in rocket science to identify this hummer as a Mountain cab. Howell, Mt. Veeder, Spring, Fugi, Ranier whatever these hummers need time. Dense, with viscoity of 10/70 they grip the palate,tongue, nostrils, earlobes, and calf muscles and say " Youse now have wine Sucker!".This bubba needs a least another 3-5 and should develop into a killer bottling. 92/90. 59 by the box.13.7% alc. Opened another yesterday. WOW has this hummer come along. Deep ruby. Nose bursting with floral notes, sweet spices, cassis and red and black fruits. A touch of the bramble bush and still noticable tannins only now receding. Still needs another 2-4. Killer bottling Kick this hummer up to a solid 93 and rising. WW

Still have a case and a half -at the restaurant- of this juice. Maybe I should bring some home.

Have brought some of this home. The first bottle I drank, I couldn't get over the bret. The second bottle, I let sit for awhile.... overnight before the brett went away. Not entirely but close. The wine is now sporting beautiful fruit with just the right amount of oxidation. I have to agree with WWs ageing possibilities if not add a couple of years to the wine before it really starts to decline. It does seem to be in a state of closure, but should come out of that soon. Or with a bit of decanting (hours). WW's scoring of this wine is right on at this point but may go up soon.... or down, but that's not likely.

I'll update this with the next bottle I open. I hope WW does the same.

Had forgotten about this hummer till lunch yesterday. Opened and let sit for 2 hours. Deep ruby, no bricking. Nose heavy with black fruits, spices, and bakers cocoa. All hit the palate along with that brambly note seen in most fine Mtn. bottlings. The mouthfeel is still huge and a 4&1/2 lapper finish. Kick this sucker up to a solid 93 aand climbing. Still has enough tannins to improve another 1-3. WW
