Went out to dinner at the Sauciety restaurant in the new Westin Hotel with a client that was staying there. For a new restaurant, they have a few things they need to work out. Staff is very inexperienced but at least they were attentive and genuine. Other things like inappropriately breaking into coversations I can forgive as being "rookie mistakes".

Nonetheless the food was decent and portions were large (too large?...a $6 side of risotto was almost a full serving at some restaurants so it was a good deal).

Had two bottles of the Jordan (my first try of this wine) from Napa Valley. Came out of the bottle a bit tight but improved immediately with some air to give a nice bouquet of cassis, dark fruits, cedar/oak, dark chocolate, and a hint of tobacco / earthiness. Rather tannic but definitely okay. The wine is medium to full body and well put together I think. $90 a bottle at the restaurant (their multiplier is not so large but they wanted $67 for an Earthquake Syrah!!).

The Jordan has been a favorite for restaurantuers since the first offering in 1976. He has one of the really beautiful ptoperties in Alexander Valley. Makes very nice juice that drinks nicely on release. WW

Isn't Alexander Valley Sonoma? This was a Napa wine.

Indeed Jordans' property is in Sonoma. Have no idea about them bottling a Napa. Could be, just not to my knowledge. WW

Opened another for lunch yesterday. Surprisingly this lil' hummer has actually grown some tertiary aromas and flavors with its' whiskers. A really nice surprise as normally I haaven't had much luck ageing these darlins. Put on weight, some nice aromatics, and all framed in a balanced drink. Maybe Tom or hims daughter decided to add more structure. Good Stuff! WW (FWIW thot I'd done this before but the wine was 47 by the box so indeed this was very fairly priced)
