So you say good California Cabs are expensive??? They are, but not this one. Opaque in the glass. Ripe plum and burnt caramel nose. Rich flavors of ripe plum and rich black fruit, currant, espresso and a wee touch of the burnt caramel flavor. Initially I thought the wine might be an oak monster from the nose but not so. A solid wall of fine grained tannins hit you mid palate and continue through the long, lingering finish. Delicious now and me thinks will age for many years. 13.9% Alc/vol. I don't know, Drew. That wee touch of caramel doesn't sound like a good sign for aging--could mean either oxidation establishing itself or a little cooked.

I think it's just my palate interpretation of their toasty oak imparted flavors.

Next time, look for any sign of amber or browning--shouldn't be there in a wine that young. If it is, and you detect caramel, drink young.
