Had lunch yesterday at the club with one of my closest friends who has developed into a wine drinker! I always bring a new version of the BVs' as the wine that turned him on was the 94 Reserve. Needless to say both of these dudes need more time but the Tapsky was getting close and the Reserve showed its stuff after decanting and sitting for an hour whilst we consumed the baby bro. An old hand that keeps grabbing its' share of my attention most vintages. WW

Agree on the 05 Tapestry....I don't think I'll open another for 3 to 5.

do you two think the 06 private reserve would be enjoyable now with a lengthy decant to serve with filet mignon? an old friend is coming over next weekend and she likes big red wines. this, alas, is probably the best bottle i have.

Well, we did drink the '06 BV GDL Private Reserve, although it was one of several "extra bottles" and not really planned.

The final tally (in order) from the weekend: NV J Rose Brut, '08 Shea Vineyards Estate Pinot Noir, '07 Stefania Santa Cruz Mountains Cabernet, 06 George de Latour Private Reserve Cabernet, '05 Bennett Family Napa Valley Cabernet, '07 Robert Mondavi Napa Valley Cabernet, then late last night at her hotel, an '06 Coppola Director's Cut Cabernet (which was very tight, but the last 2 glasses with lunch today were pretty nice).

We obviously ended up opening a lot more bottles than anticipated, kind of like hanging out with WW — except my friend is much younger and hotter. Sorry Verne, couldn't resist.

BTW, you were right about the '06 BV GDL Private Reserve. A 2-hour decant was perfect and the wine was singing.
