Just a short note about this stuff I happened across at Trader Joe's.

I bought it completely on the reputation of the great, eccentric Martin Ray Cabs of the past, figuring that a name that well-tended wouldn't ba attached to a crappy bottle. Faith rewarded. It's not quite as opulent as the McMannis and that's probably a good thing for those of us who lean toward the Bordeaux minor leagues for our Cabs. It IS still a CA fruit bomb but manages some admirable mineral and herb elements in with the black fruit and coffee/tar/chocolate. It breathed nicely and has a finish a lot of far pricier Cabs would like to have.

AND IT'S $5.99. I haven't seen it anywhere but TJ's but they seem to have a good stock. If you like the McMannis - and I'm glad to see that some of you do - I think you'll like this, too.

Guess this is proof-positive of the wine glut. Ole' Martin would look like a whirling dervish iff'n he saw this. Count me as a MeMannis believer. WW
