Over the last two weeks, I have had some great cabernets....

2001 Robert Craig Mt. Veeder - Absolutely wonderful nose of deep fruit and sweet casis and cherries, has a toffee like palate of wonderfully deep and luscious fruit. Nice long finish. Beat out a 99 Plumpjack and 03 David Arthur Meritaggio for wine of the night. Unanimous favorite of 5 people. Just really firing on all cylinders.

2001 Egelhoff - This was absolutely wonderful last night...had a lovely dark cherry bouquet and wonderful palate of dark fruit, blueberry, and some old world tobacco and leather. Mouthfeel was exceptional. Best wine of the night that included a 01 Affinity, 94 Chimney Rock Napa, 02 Chimney Rock Reserve, and several other wines.

2004 Egelhoff - Had this last weekend after a 2002 Ladera Lone Canyon Cabernet and before a 2001 Robert Craig Affinity. The Egelhoff was just outstanding and the clear favorite, though the other two bottles were also very nice. Deep dark fruit, lovely chocolate with leather tones and a touch of mint on the finish. Felt like silk in the mouth. Just wonderful.

These were the three best wines I have had after a couple very long weeks of traveling, entertaining clients, and drinking a lot of wine from my friends and own private collection.

Sounds like my type of drinking. Thanks a bundle for posting this during my sabbatical. Love living vicarously. WW
