Picked up a 1997 Buena Visa, Cabernet Sauvignon, Carneros for $12 the other day. The retailer said it was ready to go. Can't find info on this or any other vintage of this board. Any suggestions?

Sounds like it should be a winner, IK. Here's what the weinery's own Website has posted on it:

Thanks hotwine. We popped it tonight, and it was, indeed, a very approachable cab with varietal notes. Got both a noseful and mouthful of black current brandy (Cassis), wonderful Carneros dirt, full bodied complexity, and smooth tannin, with a 1 1/2 alarm finish. Matched splendidly with broiled "Texas style" sirloin steaks from Omaha Steaks covered with well seasoned sauteed 'rooms, baked yellow sweet potato, and salad with blue cheese dressing. An excellent value.

This is one of the oldest wineries in Calif. Was owned for years by a German firm ( and may still be ) with a rather lacksidasical attitude towards this fine property. Best known for some of its SWs' but has all of the major varietals at the estate. Located at the Southern end of Sonoma on the West side of Carneros has the potential to make a lot of fine juice. A real mystery. WW ( You did mean Buena Vista dint' youse? "Good Credit Card" don't make good wine )
