My local wine guy just got in a shipment from the winery and is offering at $120 per and $690 a 6 pack...how good is this?

I have not had it lately, but am told it is holding up rather well. Having said that, wine prices seem to reflect today more what the name means rather than what the wine is.

Unless there is a promise of orgasm, why spend $120 for a bottle of wine? Even still, I am sure the former can be had for less cost than the latter.

and I agree 100%...I have trouble putting out above $40, it just peaked my interest. Thanks.

I have a bottle of the 93' and when I tried it on New Years Eve of 01/02 it wasn't showing very well.

I am hoping it was just in the phase that it goes through where tannins were breaking down and it was funky.

I checked my inventory about the 94 and I don't have one. Otherwise I would have gladly popped it for you and let you know.

Here is what Spectator said about this wine:

A supple, complex and harmonious reserve, sporting a broad range of currant, anise, coffee, cedar and spice flavors, picking up light toasty oak notes and finishing with a smooth texture. Delicious now, but worthy of cellaring, too. (JL) Laube gave it a 94.

I know that most are suspect of Laube and friends, but sometimes they are right.

Now for the cost....

"1994 Robert Mondavi Cabernet Sauvignon Reserve

Flight 2

D -- Some initial rich, ripe red fruit was out in front of a basically shy, reserved nose...Amy McClellan remarked on its "savory spices." The attack is sweet, showing caramelized sugar and sweet berries, but then turning somewhat dilute at the center. The herbal/anise finish is of a medium length. The tannins and acids seem absent. An "OK"/open sort of wine, but certainly in a decline."
A review on the 1994 Robert Mondavi Cabernet Sauvignon Reserve from the Gang of Pour website (credits to Larry Meehan). Sounds like faint praise but then he ranks it as excellent and in the top four of sixteen '94 Cabernet Sauvignon wines at the tasting. Insignia, Monte Bello, and Flora Springs Trilogy were the others in his top four. (Most of the other tasters were less enthusiastic about the Flora Springs Trilogy). It was a blind tasting (but perhaps not double blind).

Drew I'm sure I've posted on this several times in the last year. My memory tells me this is a solid hummer that almost did the trick for me but a case would be needed to arouse the Foodster.
