2008 Knapp, Finger Lakes, Cabernet Sauvignon ($13.95 from winery). Alcohol level: 12%!!!

Despite the low horsepower this is a delightful wine that leaves you more sober than most Cabs these days. It provided plenty of fruit upfront and on the nose including the varietally correct black currents. It held up extraordinarily across the palate with smooth tannin; and it finished nicely.

It held up just fine with a dinner of rib eye steak and all the trimmings. Highly recommended if you are looking for a Cab with finesse rather than an over extracted bomb.

Popped a 2011 tonight and enjoyed it with rib eye steak seared on the stovetop and finished in a 400 degree F oven (restaurant style). It was a great match. Sides were roasted baby Yellow Golds, and a salad with creamy goat cheese dressing. Yum!

Almost the same for our New Year's dinner. Had a much too thin rib eye with full size Yukon Golds and salad in a vinaigrette. Wanted a low power Cab, and this one delivered. Yum!

Another '11 tonight. The rib eye tonight was the right size and cooked perfectly IMHO. Also enjoyed cut up oversize red potatoes, and roasted the pieces; very good. And also a salad with freshly made salad dressing. Was it a great Saturday night dinner? You bet!

Another '11 tonight with rib eye steak rubbed with Morton rub, and grilled over charcoal and mesquite chips; with sides of baked yams and eggplant salad. Yum!

Another '11 tonight with rib steak cooked restaurant method as it was too wet to grill; along with baked sweet potatoes, and sliced tomatoes. Yum!

Into the twelves now. Shared one with son-in-law last night with charcoal grilled rib steaks, baked sweet potatoes, and green beans in butter. Yum!
