I am 5'2". I have steadily gained weight over the past five years since I quit smoking. I weigh 190lbs. I drink 2-3 glasses of wine in the evening. I am attempting to do the "no flour/no sugar" diet. Is there a lot of or any sugar in wine?

Welcome to the board, Injn. There's very little sugar in wine; most, if not all, has been converted to alcohol during fermentation. However, wine does contain calories..... about 90 per six ounce glass, as I recall. So yes, wine can aggravate a weight problem. I gained 25 lb when I quit smoking in '91, but that just put me at 230, and at 6'3" it wasn't so bad. But it still took time to get rid of it. Recommend you try a low fat/low carb/high protein diet with regular aerobic exercise. I chew a lot of gum these days..... sugar-free, of course. Good luck. Prefer to chew cigars, but wife frowns on finding chewed cigar butts around the house.

Thanks a lot for the info. Maybe I will cut my wine consumption down to one glass.

Thanks bridgehorse, actually I drink about two bottles of wine a week also, and I have started the South Beach Diet, and I have lost about 7lbs., mainly because I am not being strict on the diet yet, but I do like it.
