hello.. i was always told that it is better health for the liver if you ate something before drinking alcohol. is this true or false?? also do you think that red wine affects the liver less than hard liquor?? i never have a problem eating while i drink and after. thank you...bridgehorse

We'd probably have to wait for our resident MD, Bucko, to chime in on this one for 100% accurate info. The only thing I could think of as far as empty stomach vs. full is that it enters your blood stream faster, meaning more alcohol in the stream quicker which might force the liver to filter more out in less time. As far as hard liquor vs. wine, as far as the liver goes, I believe it doesn't matter as long as you keep the portions to the recommended.

Hey you can always count on me for 10% accuracy, or WW isn't a desert rat.

Numerous tests have shown that drinking 21 drinks over the course of a week is much better for the body than doing a beer bust weekend and drinking 21 bottles over the weekend.

To a lesser degree, if you eat, the food allows slower absorption of the alcohol, and better de-toxing by the liver.

I can drink with the best of them, but I went to a friend's house on an empty stomach (because I wanted to pig out on his terrific Chinese cooking). I unintentionally got plowed. Never again.......
