I was given a bottle of Cordova Cellars 1989 Vidal Blanc for Christmas in 1989. This was the first year this winery was in business in Cordova, TN, outside of Memphis, TN. I have not been able to find a value on this 750 ml bottle of wine. Would appreciate any information as to value, if the wine is still ok, or where I might be able to search on the internet. Any information would be appreciated.

Hi Mam and welcome to the Wine Board. That was a very nice wine costing around $10 or less back in '89. I love fresh Vidal Blancs. Yours in not fresh anymore. It has long become some other substance. It was never worth more than it cost.

Thanks for your prompt reply. I'm a novice at anything wine related. I consumed some really nice wines several years ago, but haven't indulged recently. I forgot I had this wine and ran across it recently. It is still really clear. Would it be worth opening and using as a cooking wine or should I just pitch it?

As aa general rule of thumb, If you can't enjoy drinking the wine, don't spoil good food by puoring what is basically bad vinegar in it. WW

Not sure where you live but you might take the bottle back to the winery--have the owner sign it and you have a collector's item (you said it was their first vintage)--good for your display shelf, not for drinking.

Or you can offer the bottle to winery for their display shelf--you would be suprised how many new wineriers fail to keep bottles of their first vintage and wish they had some in later years--again not to drink, but for historical purposes.

glenora, I live about 30 minutes from the winery. I'll take your suggestion and see if I can get the bottle signed. It has been in the Christmas packaging all these years. I never opened the paper since I knew it was wine, as it had a gift tag on the outside with the name of the winery on it...so the bottle, seal, and label are in perfect condition.
