Please, oh please don't screw it up

Saw on the local news, which is a painful enough experiance, that the state legislation will be putting up a bill that will allow any "dessert wine," as they call them, upto and under 21% alcohol to be sold at the grocery/wine store level. This means port/sherry/etc!

The problem is, as always, money. One senator is saying the state will lose a couple million dollars in revenue. one of the senators supporting the bill says those numbers are for alcohol under 40% and the actual revenue loss will be around 400,000. Of course, a much better selection of port will be more readily available to the growing wine drinkers of the Boise area. The wineshops, obviously, will like it because they get many regular inquiries into port and are losing that revenue.

If all goes well, the state will pass it. but its the type of bill that can be ignored if the local government vote against it for their jurisdiction. Fortunately, the county I live in, canyon, and the one I buy in, ada, are the seats of the majority of Idaho's wineries and wine consumers.

Hope they don't screw it up and I'll be able to have some more options!

Chris, this is good news, I hope it makes it! The various laws are amazing! Remember the first time I bought hard alcohol in a grocery store, was living in California, I remember how that it seemed so novel to me. Then on the other end there is Vancouver Canada where you cannot even buy wine or beer in a grocery store, or parts of Alaska that are "Dry" (though you just need to know the right folks).
