Randy, I've got as much hope of living long enough to see that as I have of ever seeing true reform of our tax structure. The very idea that employees of a transportation company would take it upon themselves to disrupt interstate commerce by destroying a wine shipment is just beyond comprehension! I've ready to start a boycot of UPS.

Needless to say, we don't want to say too much here, but just cleaned out two truck loads of wine shippers from my basement, and you know, none of them came from wineries, retailers, brokers, or, apparently, anybody in the wine business.

In a certain town in New York State a particular UPS office is operated by a Bible-thumping Baptist who claims that wine is a major sin; he has also claimed that no alcohol will ever get through his warehouse and onto a truck.

The trouble (and the benefit) with UPS is that they allow their local operations heads discretion on the matter. In other words, it's trouble when the local is a fanatic anti, but it's lenient when the local is not inclined to intervene.

All the more reason we need a comprehensive federal ruling on this issue.

Well that tells me one thing for sure. My local UPS guy is not an anti-alcohol fanatic ......

But then again, Virginia still does not have an open container law for the car; they do have a drinking in public law. I can drive on the highways with a open can of beer but I can't sit in my yard and drink a glass of wine. How droll, eh?

I have to clear my back room and my garage of shipping cases every now and then, just like IK. None of the labels say anything much.......... Glad of that!
