What is up with the New York State Legislation? I cannot seem to get but a handful of the wines from their state in our liquor and specialty stores in Rhode Island.
They talk about legislation being passed, But what IS the true story???

There are no NYState laws that prohibit wineries from selling wines through the three tier system to any other state. There are NYState laws that prohibit shipping to consumers from out of state.

And, there are laws in some states (Pennsylvania comes to mind) that are so corrupt it is difficult for wine to get into the state stores.

You likely can't get NY wines in RI liquor stores because

1. the distributors in your state aren't buying them

2. the ones you seek are in small production and so little is sold out of NYState

3. a combination of the two

foodie- does that mean I cannot order any wine from the finger lakes? I haven't tried yet, but planned on it next month after I move. Any suggestions?

Luckily, California is not a felony state when it comes to the truly dangerous and criminal act of shipping wine within our civilized and FREE country. And so, even though I can't speak for those who sell wine, I think there are some who will ship it to you.

First, if anyone can answer the question "what's up with the New York Legistlature" then they most likely are related to King Solomon, or can walk on water. The NYS Legistlature has not passed an on time budget in almost 20 years creating all kinds of havoc for schools, businesses, and local government--and when it comes to wine and other beverage alcohol--this is the state that is mother of prohibiton!!

Wineries shipping out of state -- most do but it is not likely that you will find that information in printed form, or on a website. BUT--visit the winery's website, get the 800 #, make a phone call, and most likely your order will find its way to you.

Your wines have found their way to me in the past. I have been thoroughly enjoying them, so much so that I have officially sworn off all California chards and rieslings- and b/c of that, 1/2 of my birthday present is gone, only about 1 case left. (You'd think that the distributors out here would get a clue.)
