In a recent edition of Northwest Brew News, there was an article about a law that was recently changed in Washington State. Apparently you couldn't buy beers above about 10% alc. Thus, effectively eliminating barley wine. Well, a barley wine lover frequented a bar that a state legislator also frequented. Well, the legislator turned out to be a fine beer and barleywine lover. they all had a chat and the legislator set about change the law.

Lobby, Lobby, Lobby with the liquid we love.

If we don't change their minds, then we'll at least pickle their livers

We had a case in New York that almost backfired on the wine industry. It involved a really wine-friendly NY Senator, whose father, I believe, had worked in the wine industry. The senator went to bat for the industry every chance he could, and did a lot to help foster changes--until he was arrested in his car one evening, asleep at the wheel from intoxication.

True story that proves, when you lobby you've got to pick'em carefully...
