An Eclectic Thanksgiving -- We have a lot to be thankful for.....

On this traditional holiday, we had a Vietnamese family over for the celebration. The mother, married to a retired US Army gentleman, managed to leave Vietnam with him at the close of the war. She had no idea where her son was, or if he was alive, being conscripted by the South. The years passed, then one day they received a call from an overseas missionary that her son was alive and well in a refugee camp. The harrowing
story of his multi-year escape from Vietnam would take a book. It just makes you stop and think that the petty problems that we face each day pale in comparison. We had a Cajun/Vietnamese dinner, with Loire, Alsace and Oregon wines..... only in America.

Mmmmmmm good! Did think you were going to try the wild rice stuffing though. Last night we had the our full leftover dinner except the guests and completely devoured pie. Broke down and had an Erath Vineyards, 1997 Willamette Valley, Pinot Noir with it. Admittedly it was very good with everything. But not as good as the Big Zin on the Big Day.
