Steven Spurrier article top ten grapes...
I was reading a recent Decanter magazine (September) and came across this article on Syrah. Now, I generally don't comment on other writers nor do I like to comment especially on top ten lists as these are all very personal.

But....and you knew this was coming..... I thought I would throw this out at your guys. his list was (for Red Grapes only) Cabernet Sauvignon, Pinot Noir, Syrah, Merlot, Nebbiolo, Grenache, Sangiovese, Cabernet Franc, Malbec and Carignan.

Who am I to argue with a man that has drank 10000 times more wine than me and assuming that there was some order to his list....my list would be different because

(1) I'd have Nebbiolo and Sangiovese higher.
(2) Where is Zinfandel, even for me. probably lose Carignan

Some of those gnarly old vines produce some great juice!

Don't fret old pet....I've clashed with almost every wine writer (critic) over my time in the market. Seems like they all believe they have the secret when in reality they don't walk on water and they have the same amount of taste buds on their tongue thingy as all mortals. You have far more insight than most "pros" so ignore, drink more, and don't let them bore. WW

And I just posted on Zinfandel and can't remember ever having a Carignan.
