2000 Casalferro Barone Ricasoli

A major bottle. Almost opaque. Nose suggests spices, black fruits, brite cherries, and a load of flowers. All come across on the palate. Label says Sangiovese but there are way too many deep-rooted Merlot flavors not to be blended in. Large entry, weighty mid-palate, and a solid 4+-lapper finish. Needs another 3-6 top resolve some velvety tannins. Superior product. 93/90 54 by the box. 13.5% alc. Ordered a box to stash away. WW

K&L says it's a Super Tuscan that does indeed have Merlot in the blend. They also say WS gave it a 90 in Oct '03 and predicted it would be best after '05. Sounds like a winner.

Found this sucker stashed WAY back in the cellar and remember vaguely having one or so earlier. Searched the forum and due to misspelling the dad-burned name twice before seeing the error thot maybe the memeory was acting up agin. This is one mouthfull of juice. Dark red with no bricking. Time has greatly enhanced the nose with both red and black cherries coming thru and sweet spices kickin in. Solid entry, weighty center with a BIG finish. Still mite use another 1-2 but killer-attractive now. WW

Had another yesterday along with an 2000 Arrowood Sp. Selection at the club. Both of these suckers are going at top speed. Hard to judge against one another as they are 2 completely divergent styles and grapes but can assure you IMHO that both of these buggers hit the outstanding catagory. WW

Found another and had for lunch yesterday. Jumped outta' the bottle singing " Oh Solo Mia" and I did my best to make sure it didn't get lonely. A really nice drink that removed all doubt I had about Italian wines. WW
