1988 Chateau Latour

Looking forward to this bottle but like many things, the anticipation was better than the actual thing. Not that this was a bad bottle, in fact I very much liked it ad it was a great bottle of bordeaux, but it was not Latour. Something was missing, something that Latour does more naturally that was not here and that was power. This wine was missing the typical Latour punch.

On the nose, definitely evolved, minerally, tobacco, some fruit hiddened behind that aroma, I think it is more closed than being just like this. Despite this, elegant and proper. Lovely medium body texture, with still a good amount of tannins defending the faith and I suspect that when this bottle comes into its own, it will be very nice, just not in the typical Latour mode (not that I drink a lot of that stuff....even with the slightly reduced prices lately its a very rare treat).

I imagine most of the problem lies in the vintage. WW

I would agree WW but had hoped Latour would have mitigated it better

Back in my WS reading days, the Latour was one of the few '88s they recommended.

In light that the Margaux did better today (and much better), perhaps a faulty botttle, but then again, it still showed the vintage characteristics.
