Review of Haier 60 Bottle Wine Cooler

In the pursuit of encouraging others to post detailed reviews of their experiences with wine refrigerators, here is ours:<P>My wife and I recently returned from a trip to Napa/Sonoma and quickly realized that our basement was a poor place to store all the wine and sparkling wine we purchased. Our basement is 80F and 80%H in the summer.<P>We decided to purchase a Haier 60 Bottle Wine Cooler (Model: HVF060ABL) from Fry's Electronics for $499. While looking, we were surprised that almost no seller provided information on humidity controls or vibration. We evaluated models from VinoTemp, Avanti, and Danby.<P>To measure temperature and humidity, I purchased (again from Frys) a radio controlled temp/humidity device from Oregon Scientific. This marvel of technology allows me to read the temperature inside the cooler from anywhere in the house as it transmits wirelessly.<P>RESULTS TO DATE:<BR>- Haier quickly went to 45F and 50%H (bottom level). Temp maintained perfectly, no apparent fluctuation.<BR>- 10 degree difference between bottom level and top level. Top level is 55F and 40%H. We store sparking wine at lowest level, then white, and finally red at top.<BR>- Not able to measure vibration, but the unit "appears" to have minimal vibration.<BR>- Cooler working perfectly so far.<BR>- If debating between a 40 or 60 unit, go larger. You will easily be able to fill your new cooler!<P>Looking forward to your reviews!

Welcome to the board Rota. My reviews of the Haier 34-btl and the EuroCave 260 1-temp are scattered around in this same thread. You'll also see comments on the performance of my old storm cellar, before and after chilling with an industrial refrigeration unit.<P>Sounds like your Haier is working just fine. The difference in temperature, top to bottom, is caused by the positioning of the air vents and compressor, and actually works to your advantage in storing reds, whites and champers. I get a similar result with my 34-btl unit; but I also get a +/- 5 degree variance in temp about the set value. I don't like that kind of variation for long-term storage, so that unit has assumed reserve duty; the good stuff goes into the cellar or the EuroCave. Suggest you check yours for temperature swings of that type.<P>
