I am new to wines.com, and I noticed this topic on the list. I have a child with MD. Just wondering, does wines.com support the MDA???

Jerry Mead was an eminent wine writer and founder of this Board. This tread was created after his unfortunate death last year to post memories of him, questions about him, and offline reunions of the old gang. Thank you for asking.

And here is a love note to the Great One:

Jerry, we MISS YOU! I scored a bunch of great old Soul and Organ Trio Groove CD's last week and went to burn compilations for friends and you were still in my computer's list and I almost cried....

Fighting the good fight but still flopping around in your enormous shoes, Roberto

PS: IK, I opened what I thought was maybe an online Xmas card from you this morning and it turned out to be a huge honking spam offer to double my money every five minutes or some crap like that from "InnkeeperUSA.com". A pox on all telemarketers would be my best Holiday gift ever....

Yep, miss Jerry a lot. I was thinking the other day about the old email crowd, and what happened to us all. The thought came up when I caught a PBS money-raising oldies R 'n' R show, knowing J's propensity for such--the R'n'R, not the money-raising...

Opened a bottle, with trepidation, of Imagry 1990 Zinfandel port for my buddies at lunch yesterday. It came out of Jerrys' cellar so I regaled my friends with the stories I knew about Curmy. Dernnit, I miss the great one too. WW

Jerry was truly one of a kind. He took my worthless hide under his wing (Gawd only knows why) and gave me a lot of direction. I'm proud that Jerry Mead's New World International Wine Competition lives on under the guidance of Dick Peterson and Eileen Tillery, two genteel souls. It is always a blast judging there.

Isn't Jim Wallace still involved?

Also, while the NWIWC serves as a living testimonial to The Great One, shouldn't there be some sort of medal or trophy for best wine writing named after El Meado. Since he was always bickering with the Wine Institute and various winery bigwigs, however, it's hard to know who would sponsor such an award....

Yeah Verily Epi, Jim's still involved. He's just been so busy building a house and a new business that he's stopped the idle chatter here. As far as the sponsership, I'm sure Big Bob would jump at the chance . WW
