Vintage Cognac?

My friend claims that he has two bottles of 'Vintage' cognac. I don't believe him, as they appear to me to be the following:

1x bottle Courvoisier 3 star Luxe
1x bottle Remy Martin Fine Champagne VSOP

I know very little about cognac, but aren't these regular product lines that one finds in supermarkets, or are there circumstances where they could be considered 'vintage'?

Not sure I understand the question, but a vintage Cognac would have the vintage year on the label somewhere; if it doesn't then it likely isn't.

Vintage cognac does exist but is a rare concept. I know Hine has vintage bottlings, I don't know who else might. I doubt any bottle labeled VSOP would also be vintage - vintage cognac tends to be some of the highest quality the house can offer, and VSOP is not that (unless it's not a great house maybe). And Remy Martin VSOP is most definitely not a vintage cognac.

But then, Foodie is right, the simple test is: does it have a vintage year on the label? Perhaps your friend just means he's had the bottles for a very long time?

Hi Dalzie and welcome to the board. The only Rem-Martin Cogancs that I know of that are considered Vintage is the Louis X111 and the very rare 1724-1974 blend. WW
