Liz is now the happy mother of little Emily, born April 17th at 10:57 PM. Weighed in at 6 lbs 4 oz, 18.5 inches long.

Now for the rest of the story! Her husband Jeff is a Marine Cobra pilot. He left for Iraq at the beginning of February. On April 14th he was in the Cobra crash you may have heard about. Both pilots, including Jeff, survived. When he gets home at the end of July, little Emily will be three and a half months old.

I have long maintained that we have some terrific women on the Wine Board. I think you will all agree the Liz is one tough lady.

Not an easy task for sure.

My wife, Carole, managed to support me without complaint during Desert Storm. She got to be known as the box lady at the post office. All the while she was putting in 12-16 hour days as a resident in internal medicine.

Military families are some of the best and my hat is off to them!

Glad to hear about Emily and that Jeff is a true survivor! I usually attend Memorial Services at Fort Bragg with war widows present (including the widows of Medal of Honor soldiers from the battle at Mogadishu) but was flying back from NYC this Memorial Day so missed the ceremony.

Thanks, all, for the congrats! Emily is such a sweet baby! (And I'm so happy to once again be able to drink wine!)

I found out that Jeff won't be back until Sept. Apparently the replacement forces are taking their sweet time getting to Iraq (who would blame them? - Jeff has reported temps up to 140F!).
